REUNION IN ORLANDO: THE SCOTT WHITFIELD QUINTET with SPECIAL GUEST GINGER BERGLUND

Saturday, April 8, 2017 will mark a special occasion for all jazz fans in Central Florida.

Trombonist/composer/arranger/vocalist Scott Whitfield, an Orlando resident from 1987 to 1993, will reunite with some of his favorite musical cohorts from his Florida days for an evening of hard-swinging straight ahead jazz, peppered by a guest appearance by vocalist Ginger Berglund, with whom Whitfield has explored the Great American Songbook as well as the roots of Bebop Vocalese, a la Jackie Cain and Roy Kral. The two most recently released an entire CD of the music of Johnny Mandel (STILL creating music at 91 years YOUNG!), and will be in town at the tail end of a tour with the Stan Kenton Legacy Orchestra. The audience can expect to hear a variety of material, from standards to jazz classics to Whitfield’s Bebop-rooted original compositions.

Saxophonist/flautist Dan Jordan is a mainstay to Central Florida listeners, and was prominently featured on two of Whitfield’s past CD releases, “Live at Birdland” and “Diamonds for Nat” (featuring the music of Nat Adderley, himself a Florida legend).

Pianist Mark McKee is another long-time fixture in the Orlando jazz world, and is featured on Whitfield’s “To Be There” CD (the trombonist’s debut commercial recording as a leader).

Bassist Charlie Silva brings his innate sense of groove and time to the party, himself certainly no stranger in O-town!

Rounding out the group will be drummer Walt Hubbard, another local favorite.
